Day 13: He’s faithful even if we are faithless
2 Timothy 2:13
During lockdown I find myself busier than ever. I saw lots of people doing lots of new things like baking banana bread or making TikTok videos. Annoyingly, I just haven’t had the time to do these things (not sure I would do either of these though).
I wanted to do something different that I hadn’t done before so decided that me and Skye would make an adventure book. This was something that wouldn’t take up much time and we could do a bit each day.
I love Holidays. As a family we have been on lots of little holidays around the country often finding bargain places to stay. Whether it’s being by the seaside, walking in the beautiful countryside or visiting our wonderful cities, I love that we have been able to do this and I love the country we live in.
We filled our adventure book with photos and memories of all the places we had been on the holidays or short breaks from years gone by. This has been one of my favourite things to do. It has reminded me of lots of fun memories it showed me how much love I have around me. It also showed me how much God has blessed us. Some memories are not as fun, I remember one time my son was on a dinghy and going far out to sea (or it felt far to me) I was scared (My husband was not). On reflection I now see good came from this moment. My son’s confidence grew. Me being scared showed my son how much I loved him, my husband calmness spread to me as I knew I had someone with me holding my hand when I was scared. This is just what happens when we focus on God but it is in reflecting when we realise.
In today’s uncertain times, thinking about these blessings has made me more determined to get through this season with hope for more memory-making days. It has also helped me grow as a person as it reminded me that we always have Love, Hope, and Faith in all we do because of God.
The verse I’m looking at today is
2 Timothy 2:13
If we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot disown Himself.
There have been times in my life when my faith has been low, or I haven’t been able to see that God is working. This is usually when I let my mind go into overdrive, overthinking and taking control, and I take my eyes off God and forget to listen to my heart and my spirit. Times that my faith has been low include before I became a Christian, when things have gone wrong, in my deepest sadness.
How amazing in these times that our God is strong and faithful to us. One of his promises is exactly that. He will always be faithful to us. God can carry us and lift us even when we cannot do it ourselves.
I think it is so important to remember when God has been faithful. He is our strength, our hope our comfort. As a church and as Christians we often look ahead to what’s important in the future. How we grow and change and how we move forward… This is a great thing to do however, I am encouraging you today to take time to remember the past. Strength and faith can come from remembering and reflecting on our past. As I look back, I see God was faithful to me when I was in my deepest sadness and pain. He was holding me up. He helped me see things differently. He put people around me that spoke faith into my situation. He put people round me that helped me practically. In this time, he remained faithful even when my faith or my hope was lacking. At the time I wouldn’t have recognised it. Reflecting and remembering how faithful God was during this time has grown my faith.
I am encouraging us to remember times God has been faithful. You might want to do this in different ways: share stories with others- maybe your Connect Group. Write it down – through journaling or devotional, you could give thanks in worship or prayer, in whatever way you want to remember.
As when we are reminded of times such as these it grows our faith, our love and our hope.
My encouragement to you today is that you take some quiet time with God remembering all the times he has been faithful. Especially those times when our faith has been lacking. Or think about the times he has been faithful when we have not had the strength to worship or to praise him. How amazing is it that he remains faithful and he keeps his promises!
I pray that in doing this our faith will grow and our love for God will grow and this will change our future.
