Day 3: God hears us
1 John 5:14
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
Unsurprisingly the book of 1 John is written by the apostle John, the purpose being to reassure Christians in their faith and to counter false teachings.
This letter was written to no particular Church, it’s a pastoral letter sent to several congregations but also written to all believers everywhere, including you and I today. And during this dark time, as we once again live through another national lockdown, the words of this letter can reassure our faith.
The emphasis in this verse is on God’s will, not our will. Sometimes we rush straight into prayer, listing all the things we want God to do but do we ever take time to ask God what his will is? Each time I pray I like to use the words from the Lord’s prayer – your will be done! We may not always understand God’s ways, we may even sometimes get angry with what we think he has or hasn’t done but do you know that’s ok, as long as we keep coming to Him!
No matter what happens we can trust that God’s way really is the best way, even when we don’t always understand it! God has a plan for each one of us which is far greater than we can comprehend. What we need to do is align our heart with God’s heart and align our prayers with his will. When we do this we can have the confidence that the verse speaks of.
When we pray according to his will, he listens and when he listens we can be certain he will answer us.
Another thing we can be confident in is that we have a loving father who wants to give good gifts to his children as it tells us in Matthew 7:11.
So let us raise our faith levels, let’s choose to believe again, let’s align our prayers with his will and pray some big prayers, knowing that nothing is impossible for our God!
I’d love us to join together as a Church today in praying for healing for our friends, family and Church family who may be sick at this time but maybe you also want to take some time to realign your heart with Gods and pray ‘let your will be done’!
