In my own journey with God I have found that when life feels still and uneventful I can often wonder where are you God? Where is the ‘more’ in this season?
It is not a bad thing to want more because we believe God is cable of doing more and we are eager to see Him at work, but it is often the fact that He is about to do more that he gives us some still time to set our feet on his firm foundation and prepare and ready ourselves for all that He is about to do.
Someone who had readied themselves for God’s call was Samuel. In the book of 1 Samuel, we meet
him as just a boy who God had not yet revealed His word to.
1 Samuel 3:4-5
Suddenly The Lord called out, “Samuel, Samuel!” “Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” He jumped up and ran to Eli. “Here I am,” he said, “what do you need?”.
Although Samuel had mistaken God’s call for Eli, he heard his call, ran to attention and responded Here I am. He was so obedient in his actions that he got up four times in response, that means four times he had the will power to get up and jeopardized a good night’s sleep. I respect that.
When more came he might have not known what it was at first, but he knew how to respond. When
we spend more time with God we will become more sensitive to God speaking but in preparation
Samuel learnt obedience, eagerness and persistence. So, when he did hear God he was ready and
available for God to work through him.
But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.
God will complete His purposes and will do immeasurably more with or without us but He wants to
use us and He wants to bless us through that obedience. When God calls you out for more, are you
positioning yourself so that you are ready to receive and say ‘Here I am’?
Thank you Father for your goodness. Thank you Lord that when you do call us out you go before us
and with us and never desert us. Thank you that each day we get to wake up and say here I am and
that you use us for your great purposes. Father I pray that when you speak, I will have ears to listen, and I pray that today you will soften my heart and make it one of surrender and obedience to your call. Thank you Father, Amen.
