Anyone else hate waiting?
There have been a few times recently when we have been going somewhere as a family, we have planned out the time we need to leave and by some sort of miracle we have been ready ahead of schedule! If you have ever had small children you will know that leaving the house on time is near impossible. Instead of just sitting and chilling, having five minutes, I’ve just had to leave, it’s like I can’t cope with the anticipation and waiting and I just need to go at that moment. Oh and don’t get me started on that company that I ordered from who said it was next day delievery and 4 days later I was still waiting.
Patience is something that I am always asking for more of; can you tell!
In the Bible we read many times where people had to wait.
Sarah and Abraham waiting for there son Isaac – Genesis 18:1-15. The women with the issue of bleeding waited for 12 years to be healed – Mark 5:21-34. Moses waited 40 years to lead the Israelites out of Egypt – Exodus 32. I could go on, there is so many more.
These people waited for their miracle, their provision, their answer to prayer, the more that they were believing for!
Has there been a time in your life when you prayed and believed for something, but you had to wait?
If you know any of these stories you will know that they all waited differently. Some of us struggle in the wait and give up, some of us remain faithful and keep going and believing.
Over Christmas, I became obsessed with a song by Elevation Worship and Maverick City called Come Again. The song starts like this,
I’ll wait for You to come
‘Cause when I’m with You Lord
It always leaves me wanting more
How true is that, there has been so many times in my life when I have seen first hand what it means in James 4:8 when it says ‘Come near to God and he will come near to you.’ I’ve had the encounter with God felt His Holy Spirit, He has spoken to me, challenged me and I’ve just wanted more; more of God.
Can you remember a time when you encountered God and you came away just wanting more?
We live in an instant world, a world where we want things straight away and waiting is sometimes hard to do, but are we making waiting on God a priority in our every day? Are we waiting on Him when we spend time with Him or are we just rushing so we can get on with our day and complete our to do list. It’s sometimes so hard to do, to sit and wait. Wait for God to come, but how much more are we missing out on because we aren’t waiting.
Making space in our day to wait on God, I promise you, He will come and it will leaving you wanting more.
Psalm 37:7
Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land.
Prayer
Lord, thank you that when I spend time with you it leaves me wanting more. Help me today to wait; wait for you to come. Lord please help me in my waiting, in every season.
