Have you ever had such a big meal, that you thought you would never eat again?!
Maybe you’ve sat back after Christmas dinner, unable to move and even turned down dessert!
Perhaps you visited an ‘all you can eat’ Chinese restaurant and decided to truly get your money’s worth!
Whatever it is for you, many of us have had that moment of being truly full-up.
But the truth is, it make take a little while, but there is always room for more!
Even after making bold claims like “I’m not eating again for a week”… you’ve always made room
Through the Sunday messages of this series, you’ve heard us unpacked some of the teaching of
Jesus, regarding the Holy Spirit. Many of the key verses for this are found in the gospel of John, chapters 14-16.
In these chapters we see Jesus preparing his disciples. Firstly, preparing them that he wouldn’t always be with them. But secondly, he preparing and promising them that they won’t be alone, because the Father will send the Holy Spirit.
In chapter 16 we read this verse.
I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.
The disciples have been overloaded with information! Jesus has been giving them some world changing news that has probably had their minds whirling! But just like when we’re full-up after a meal and “can’t bear” to eat any more, Jesus says he has much more to say, but only once we’re ready to receive it. So the way it will be revealed to them, is through the power of the Holy Spirit.
You see, God doesn’t force feed us.
He doesn’t barge his way into our lives.
He waits patiently to be invited.
He waits for us to make room and once we’re ready and we ask to receive… he always has more
Sometimes we’re not always full-up with the things of God, we’re just fully consumed with
everything else that’s going on! The news, our family, work commitments, financial concerns, holiday plans, house work, the shopping that needs doing and that plant that you always forget to water!
It can be so easy for us to get caught up in the chaos of day-to-day life, that we don’t stop to make room for more of Gods presence and his purposes for us.
So firstly, let me commend you for reading this daily devotion today!
For setting time aside to read and receive. That’s a brilliant decision.
Secondly, let me encourage you to keep making more room for God, in your everyday life. Just as Jesus promised, there is more for God to speak into your life and work in your life. He’s just looking for our readiness and our willingness to receive.
Lord, I want to thank you today that you want to spend time with me. That you long for a personal, daily relationship with me. Thank you that through your Holy Spirit, I can draw near to you. Please help me today to not be so full of all the other stuff in this world. I want to make room for more of your presence and purposes in my life. Amen
