There is more!
Can you say that with confidence? Does is translate to the way you follow Jesus?
I’m always intrigued when I read the calling of the disciples and their response to the invitation from Jesus. Mark 1:18 & 20 says “at once…” and “without delay… they followed him.”
Unpacking this a little, I think understanding culture and context plays a part in helping us, but I want to focus more on their obvious desire for more. Something beyond their current circumstance, their hunger for something new, their hunger for God, their desire to know God more and to follow Him.
Why was their response so instantaneous?
For me it’s summed up in one word; desire.
A W Tozer is quoted as saying:
“Before we can be filled with the Spirit, the desire to be filled must be all-consuming. It must be for the time the biggest thing in the life, so acute, so intrusive as to crowd out everything else. The degree of fullness in any life accords perfectly with the intensity of true desire. We have as much of God as we actually want.”
How are your levels of desire today? Are they all consuming for God?
The truth is that there is always more of God for us!
How could there not be?
How could we come to the end of a limitless and eternal God?
The question is therefore, how is our desire for God?
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Lord, help me to desire you more and more each day. May my hunger for you grow and may I seek you earnestly.
