So, here we are!
A brand new year and a brand new series of Daily Devotions.
Yesterday in Church we launched our new teaching series; More!
We’re starting this new year by building a theological foundation of faith in our lives.
Faith that doesn’t just mean we have a belief in the existence of God, but faith that means we have an expectancy for the power of God to be at work in our lives!
The purpose of these Daily Devotions is to help you in your daily pursuit of a deeper and greater relationship with God. A pursuit to not settle for our current experience of God, but to seek for more of God in the year ahead.
Whatever last year was like, whatever even yesterday was like! Each and every day we have a fresh opportunity to grow in our relationship with God. To seek him afresh and to know more of him.
Lamentations 3:22-24 tells us:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his mercies never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
The writer of Lamentations starts to focus, in these verses, on the hope that is found in God.
Though we may face difficulty. Though we may walk through seasons and situations that we can’t understand. There is an eternal and daily source of hope to be found in God.
We never have to be consumed by circumstance, when we understand and we draw upon God’s faithfulness and his mercies that are new every morning.
Why not take a moment, right now, to thank God for his faithfulness!
Thank him that whatever you face, he is with you. He never leaves us, or forsakes us.
Thank him that today he has more of His fresh mercies for us!
In verse 24 in this passage of scripture, the writer says:
v24: “I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.””
Sometimes we’re reminded of Gods word through other people. It can be a sermon, a podcast, a friend, a pastor. We all need people to encourage us. But the writer here reminds us that we can also speak to ourselves to build our faith! In moments when you’re losing perspective. In times when things are getting a stressful or anxious, don’t wait for someone else; speak faith to yourself!
Remind yourself that God’s not finished with you yet!
That there is more for you to experience in him.
“I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.””
Father God, I thank you today that you are my portion.
Everything I need is found in you. You are more than enough.
Thank you for your daily provision of mercy and faithfulness.
I recognise that even in the moments where I am faith-less, that you are always faithful.
Help me to live today with a new level of expectancy.
I want to experience more of what you have purposed for me.
Fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit, so that I can experience your power in my life.
