Reading: John 5
John 5:17 (AMP)
But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now [He has never ceased working], and I too am working.”
At this moment Jesus was defending the miracle of healing the lame man by the pool. The Pharisees were in uproar as the miracle happened on a Sabbath, when no ‘work’ is to be done.
If God stopped every kind of work on the Sabbath, nature would fall into chaos. Imagine the sun and moon stopping. Day and night ceased to be. Light, day, growth, time, nature, all stopped. Mayhem and chaos would run rampant.
Genesis 2:2 says that God rested on the seventh day, but this can’t mean that he stopped doing good.
Jesus wanted to teach that when the opportunity to do good presents itself, it shouldn’t be ignored.
Just like a scout looking to help an old lady across the road, today, actively look for the opportunity to do good. At work, at home, at school. Sometimes, this means going against the flow of what everyone else sees as normal.
