Reading: John 3
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
This has got to be the most famous bible verse in the world. You’ve heard it preached many times, maybe you learnt it as a memory verse in kids Church. You might have seen it graffitied on a church toilet wall or held on a sign at an American Football game!
It’s a hugely famous bible verse and that can become a problem. Sometimes we can become so over-familiar with certain scriptures, that they lose some of their significance.
I remember being in a Connect Group style meeting and being asked what were our favourite bible verses. If someone answered with John 3:16, people would roll their eyes and ask for a ‘proper’ answer. Why, because of over-familiarity!
Let’s read this verse today as if it was the first time we’ve ever heard it. Take some time, read it slowly, think about each word, more than that, think about its significance for your life.
- What has the truth of this passage done for your life?
- What difference has it made for you?
Get unfamiliar with these words, so that their power might hit you afresh today!
