Happy New Year and welcome to the first Sunday Review of 2017. For those who have no idea what this is, every week right here on the Hero Factory Blog, we will be reviewing and sharing with you what we got up to on a Sunday in Kids Church. We understand that sometimes trying to find out from your children what they learnt is next to impossible so the Sunday Review is all about filling you in on what we preached on, but also to help you to carry on the conversation at home.
So make sure you grab yourself a coffee and head back here every week. You can find this blog on the church website or make sure you download our app so you can check it out where ever you are on your phone.
Richmond, Barnard Castle and Penrith
This Sunday we started the year by talking about New Beginnings. All of us from the youngest to the oldest have done things that we wish we hadn’t. This could be something serious but also something embarrassing. I shared with the children about the time I fell over in front of around 100 people in duck poo. It was the hottest day in Southport and as I was walking down the pier with friends I slipped over and not only hurt myself but landed in duck poo. On Sunday we spent time sharing with each other our embarrassing stories and talking about how we wish it didn’t happen.
A new year brings so much excitement as we see it as a new beginning, a chance to start all over again and have a fresh start. We all do things we wish we could forget if it’s embarrassing or a lot more serious, maybe it’s being rude to our parents, being mean to our brother and sister. Maybe, we were nasty to someone at school. We spent time talking to your children about how in Christ we can have a second chance, a new beginning.
We spent some time looking at Paul and Moses. These two men were given a new beginning and a fresh start in God.
Underneath are our Tea Time Talk questions. At tea time tonight take some time to ask your children these questions.
Tea Time Talk
- What is your most embarrassing story?
- We all do things we wish we had not of done. Have you ever done something wrong and wish you hadn’t what was it?
- God can give us a New Beginning, we just need to ask. Can you remember anything about Paul?
Paul – He was called Saul and he was not nice he did lots of horrible things to people who believed in God. One day while on his way to a place called Damascus a bright light shined and blinded him. God spoke to him and said ‘What are you doing?’ From that day his life completely changed and he was called Paul. He then travelled everywhere sharing with people about God
Moses – He was a Israelite living in a palace with Egyptians when he saw an Egyptian being horrible to a Israelite. He was so mad that he hurt the Egyptian because of that he fled into the dessert where he started a new life. God spoke to him through a burning bush and told him to go back to Egypt to save the Israelites. Even though he had made a huge mistake God still used him and give him a fresh start.
- Is there anything you did last year that you don’t want to do this year?
- Pray and ask God for a fresh start.
Next Week
Starting on Sunday 15th January is our brand new series Movie Madness: Finding Dory. Each week we will be watching some of the film and seeing what we can learn from it.
Make sure your child joins us on Sunday.
