Day 17: Psalm 102
Psalm 102 starts with a soul crying out to God in a time of affliction and desperation – things that some of you may be able to relate to at the moment! But what I love is that this is not how the Psalm ends! There is a moment of revelation when the writer switches from lamenting to praise:
Verse 12:
But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.
Praise in the present then enables the writer to get a spiritual sense of what is to come in the future, that the Lord will:
Verse 13:
…arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favour to her…
Verse 16:
For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.
I believe that Jesus is using this time to rebuild many of us. He wants to take us beyond what we were before this adversity and change us into people who have grown through challenge – people who can see Him in new ways.
I also believe this rebuilding has a purpose –
Verse 18:
Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.
What we do now, and how we respond to Jesus at this time will have a lasting effect on the world around us, not just in the present but for generations to come! In the future the history books will re-tell this time – how amazing would it be if they told of a nation that was changed through praise, prayer and an unending belief that God is always in control!
Allow yourself to be rebuilt and see where God takes you!
