Day 10: Psalm 63
Awake my Soul!
Dark winter hours and the prevailing wisdom of the world to sit back and wait could have us missing out on an exciting season of growth in our life and in the church.
David wrote this Psalm in the desert . Elijah was in a desert too (I was so encouraged when Pastor David Doery preached about “the brook drying up”!)
Both of these stories were recorded thousands of years ago so that you and I would have them to help us through this pandemic!
He is our Living Water. His well is the source for our Love, Joy, Peace and Hope.
With hindsight, it was relatively easy to feel fired up and full of joy when we were physically together as Church. Singing, responding to one another as we cry out to God….and yet he is the same God. David argues that his Power and Glory are transferable
Verse 2 “I have seen you in the sanctuary”. Thats where our love song to him begins – in the secret place where we sit with him and hear his song over us. So when Life as we know it has disappeared, we find that His love is better than Life whatever the circumstances are.
Lets not just wait out another Lockdown and survive it.
Lets take hold of this opportunity, shake it for all its worth and wring out every drop of opportunity.
Some starting points –
Verse 3 Tell him who he is (it reminds us what a BIG God we serve)
Verse 4 Praise him – thank him for everything and everyone in your life
Lift up your hands to him – maybe you’ve never done this before in worship. Now is the time to practice!
Its not about who we are – its about who He is and he’s worth our unashamed, adoration. Arms wide to heaven
as we pour out our hearts to him and he pours his Spirit back into us.
Verse 5 Feed on Him – not just on his word (although that’s good too!)
Sing – remember singing? It does our souls good right? Well you’re free to sing your heart out to him right now.
Verse 6 Recently, Pastor Gale promoted our Facebook group “I’m Not Sleeping”
If sleep is eluding you at the moment its not surprising but again, we don’t have to just accept it and suffer.
Meditate on Him. Ask him to speak to you through Bible verses, visions, words, songs.
Then whatever encourages you at 2 a.m. – share it with someone else who’s awake!
Verse 10 Give the lies over to the sword of truth. We will be proved right in our faith and fake news will be silenced (1 Peter 1:7)
I believe that as we take hold of God’s promises and sing them back to him, we will look back on this time as the start of an almighty transformation in Church that enables us to keep hold of everyone who is saved in the coming years.
All of our dreams coming true until the ultimate dream of being his bride and seeing him face to face. Dont give up xx
