‘I dunno.’ ‘Nothing.’ ‘Played football.’ ‘Ate sweets.’
I reckon at some points as parents and guardians you have heard these lines after asking what your child got up to in Hero Factory on a Sunday.
Well I want to let you know that we do do something and they should know what we did unless they were in a different room and not there plus most weeks our programme includes football and sweets or biscuits.
I wanted to just write a blog to tell you what we do in HF and why. I understand that what you get from the kids is probably completely different to what we actually do so here it is.
The running order of our programme and why.
Part of our vision at Influence Church is to ‘Connect with others’ and this is what free play is all about for us, a chance for the kids to connect with others and for us as leaders to connect with them. We have football, games, craft, messy play and loads of other things if you ever come up at this point it will look like chaos but its organised.
Kids get hungry and when they get hungry they get grumpy. After the free play all the kids help clean and tidy up and why we have a drink and a biscuit we get the room ready for church. We have a serving rota for some of our older kids to help with chairs and drinks. ‘Serve others.
Church is fun! We want them kids to know that so we have fun and games and show and tell.
Every week we take an offering in HF. This is for our sponsor child Balfor who we sponsor in Honduras through compassion but also at the moment we are raising money to buy some chicken for a third world family. In 2013 our offering will be going towards buying a toilet for a family in Africa! In the past we have given money to Storehouse and the Bible society.
It’s good to pray and we always make time for it in HF. Our three words are ANY TIME ANYWHERE and about ANYTHING. Each week a different leader leads your child in a creative prayer time.
Each week we preach from the bible. We run our series in a 6 weeks programme on a different thing. Recently we have watched the film UP and linked it to the bible and at the moment we are working on Fruits of the Spirit. In this time the kids listen and we talk about God and how we can show and love him in our life.
I love CG they are my favourite time ever. We have our ‘Tiny’ Connect group which is our reception and yr 1 we then have our ‘Girls Only’ connect group and ‘Boys only’ connect group which is made up of yr 2,3,4 and 5 then finally we have our ‘I’m to cool’ connect group which is our yr 6 kids. The idea of connect groups is the same as the connect groups we are in. We have a welcome, questions, worksheets etc and then prayer. Every week we have our prayer journals where we write down what we are praying for and then we can look back and see when God answer our prayer and in the last couple of weeks we have had tons of prayers answered.
So as you can see ‘nothing’ is not the right answer we do so much in HF. If you have any questions about what we get up to then make sure you let me know.
