Day 10: 1 Samuel 17 – David and Goliath
During this lockdown season my children are missing Hero Factory (Kids Church) hugely, so have been asking to have our own at home. As I was thrown in at the deep end and had to produce content on the spot, the first story that came to mind was David and Goliath. It’s not only exciting for kids because they love a goodie v’s baddie story, but it shares several powerful truths that are good reminders to us all in this season.
At the moment our world is facing a giant of it’s own with Covid-19 but this story is a great reminder that:
With God the impossible becomes possible!
Like in the story, many people in our world are scared, this giant seems way too big but we need to remember we have a God who makes the impossible, possible!
A key to building our faith is found in verse 37:
The Lord who saved me from the claws of the lion and the bear will save me from this Philistine
Here David is reminding himself of what God has done for him in the past, how He has come through for him before. You can build your faith today by reminding yourself of what God has done for you before. Choose to spot the good in each day, see that God is still moving and choose and to trust in Him.
God has come through for you before and He will do it again!
Whatever giant you may be facing today the way to overcome it is not found in your own strength but in God’s, as we see in verse 45:
I come at you in the name of the Lord almighty
When we bring our giants before Christ in prayer, it’s Him who makes the difference.
There is power in the name of Jesus!
David knew no matter how big Goliath was, his God was bigger. It’s the same for us today!
I don’t know all the giants you may be facing -it could be anxiety, loneliness, job loss, financial strain, the balance of home schooling and working from home? Whatever the giant, stand on the truth that God is bigger than any situation and circumstance you may face. God is in control, God is on the throne, He is with you so draw close to Him and you too can overcome the giants in your life.
