Day 2: Matthew 8:23-27
This passage tells the story of a boat and a storm. Personally I have taken the boat across the Irish sea on many occasions and I can tell you that boats and storms are not a great combination.
This storm must have been particularly bad because the disciples, many of whom were skilled fishermen, were saying “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”. This storm would have made for an interesting shipping forecast! Whilst all this was happening, the bible says Jesus was asleep.
A popular song in church at the moment is Waymaker which says, “Even when I don’t see it, You’re working”. A challenge during this time is to remember that even if it seems like God is slow to respond, He is in control. When it seems like God is absent or sleeping, he is in control working all things together for good.
Psalm 121:4 reminds us that the God who watches over Israel (and us as well), neither sleeps nor slumbers.
My prayer today is that you have a renewed confidence in God during this uncertain time.
