Day 21: Psalm 127
Hi church, today we are looking at Psalm 127 in our series Awake My Soul.
When I was looking up this Psalm in a Bible commentary it was given the title ‘Your Heavenly Father knows’. This is so true because he does know and care for us, however it is up to us to rely on him and not our own abilities.
Verses 1-2
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat- for he grants sleep to those he loves.
We all want to have a secure future for ourselves and our families, perhaps a nice house etc. However, if our lives are consumed with this and striving for more, what happens when this is all taken away? Many people have experienced this due to the damage of COVID-19, suddenly jobs are insecure and rent and mortgage cannot be paid.
Instead of worry and stress however, lets plant our trust, faith and gaze on the one who had a plan carved out for us even before we were conceived. Let’s make sure we include him in our daily decisions and look to him for wisdom and guidance. It is good to work and prepare for the future but with Gods help we don’t need to worry about it. Let’s make our response one of faith instead of fear and see what happens when we change our perspective!
I have especially felt this over this year as I have had had to face a lot of changes and uncertainties during this pandemic as have many of you.
I had to finish my university course at home during a lockdown, this may seem like nothing except it was mainly a practical course and the most important aspect of it was some final recitals and big gigs as it was a music degree, however all these had to be cancelled, work which I had carefully prepared for months was suddenly unable to be used in that form. I was also unsure about what was going to happen after my degree, there were many people who had had jobs for years who had suddenly been made redundant, what was I going to do?
I did find it difficult but with Gods help I was able to complete the course; and when I prayed that God would show me the next step sure enough I was asked by Ps Gale whether I would like to join staff which was amazing and showed that God had it all sorted even though at times it seemed to me impossible.
If we make sure that God is in our decisions he will lighten our load as it says in Matthew 11:28-30. The world’s view is we have to carve out our own future without the help of anyone else, the other way is to let God lighten our load! We don’t have to worry about what tomorrow will bring as God will provide for our every need!
