The mission in our life is to put God first but sometimes that can seem impossible with all the distractions we have in our life. The truth is the mission is possible. This week in Hero Factory we talked about how the Bible can help us to always put God first and how it is so important that we make time to read it in our life.
On Sunday most parents would have been given a take home sheet which was all about having fun as a family this week and spending more time together reading the bible and discussing what you love about it.
Part one was all about helping you as parents help your children. There are helpful tips, ideas and plans on how to encourage your child to read their bible and then on the attached sheet there was lots of fun activities that your kids can do. If they complete the sheet and return it next week to the signing in desk they could win a prize. I really want to encourage you this week to spend some time with your kids doing this and learning together.
If you have lost the sheet or maybe you weren’t there on Sunday, I’ve listed below the information we gave out. If you have any questions then just let me know.

Teaching your child how to read the Bible
The bible is filled with so many amazing stories and verses but getting to grips with how to read it is sometimes the reason why many people and children don’t read it. Here are the steps we use to help teach your children.
For the example we are looking for John Ch 10 vs 10.
Step 1
Find the Contents page.
Pop in a bookmark or fold over the page so you don’t lose it.
Step 2
Look down the list of books and find John. Make sure it is just John and not 1, 2 or 3 John.
Step 3
From the name look for the page number next to it and find it in your bible.
Step 4
Find your chapter number.
The Chapter number is always the LARGE number and we are looking for 10.
Step 5
Find the verse number.
The verse number is always the LITTLE number and we are looking for 10.
Helping your child get the most out of the bible
Like we have said the bible is filled with so many amazing stories and verses but the important thing is helping your child to get the most out of what they are reading. Here are some helpful tips to help them understand what they are reading and to put it into practice.
Children’s Devotion Books
Available now are so many amazing kids devotions books. These will help your child to read their bible every day even if it is only a verse, the verse is then discussed and explained followed by an activity for them to do.
There are so many available it just comes down to working out which ones is best for your child.
Draw what you have read / Imagine you’re there
Children have the best imagination and love to picture the scene of what happened. When you read a bible story with your child maybe get them either imagine they were there and talk about what it would have been like or get them to draw what they think the story would have looked like.
Soap Bible Reading
As an adult I am a huge fan of the SOAP method when it comes to reading my bible and this can be easily done with your child.
S – SCRIPTURE
Find using the tips above, the bible story of verse in the bible.
O – OBSERVATION
What do you think this verse is saying to you? What does it mean?
A – APPLICATION
What can we learn from this? What do we need to do next?
P – PRAYER
Pray about this together.
We hope you find all this information helpful. Don’t forget that throughout the Mission: Possible series we have lots of extra blog posts and activities happening so keep checking back for more information.
